Nathan Sharp
Independent Game Developer
I am an Indie Game Developer based in Sydney, currently working as leader/manager of a small team on a 3D action/adventure game based on Japanese folklore. Tentatively titled "Yokai no Boken" (which translates to "Yokai Adventure"), the game is still in its early stages, and we hope to release it by the end of 2022.
I created the game-world, and am designing all levels myself, as well as writing the game narrative and managing the entire project and team. We will have a basic website set up soon to show progress of the game's development, and I will provide a link here. For now, you can take a sneak peek at the title screen (a work in progress), just below the picture of me smiling politely.

I graduated a Bachelor of Game Development course at Sae QANTM, Sydney in 2017. Below you can see examples of my early works; such as game levels, 3D models and VFX I have made for class assignments. I have since completed a Cert IV in Programming course at Petersham TAFE and a Cert II in IT at Liverpool TAFE.
You can check out my old major project from university, named "Zera". Please note I worked solo (aside from Audio Effects and Music), so the 3D modelling, texturing and animation are very basic - my main focus was on level design & programming.

My Early Days
I have always had a passion for creativity. This started as a child with drawing fantasy characters and scenes. As I grew up, I also started to paint, and expanded my repertoire to include animals and nature scenes.
I started leaning to play guitar when I was young, mostly teaching myself to play some of my favourite songs by ear. I would also attempt to write my own songs, which sounded very simplistic at first, but got better as I progressed, especially once I learned the blues scale.
At around age fourteen I started writing stories and even attempted making a comic book. However as much as I enjoyed these activities it wasn’t quite what I was looking for…
I left school early, at the age of 13, due to eyesight difficulties and trouble with teachers who misunderstood what the problem was. I worked at various engineering factories and car yards over the years as a general laborer, always taking pride in my work, but never satisfied. Eventually my eyesight deteriorated to the point where I was diagnosed as legally blind in 2001, and I spent the next ten years as a recluse, until in 2011 I had saved up enough for laser surgery. The surgeon told me it was the deepest surgery he had ever done, and that if any mistakes were made, they could not be undone, as there would be not enough layers of cornea left to ‘play around with’, but I went ahead with the surgery and it was successful.
Following the surgery, it took around six months for my eyes to recover to the point where I could walk outside and it took around another year and a half for me to fully ‘re-habilitate’ myself.
In 2014 I resumed my studies, firstly at Liverpool TAFE, working my way through certificates II, III and IV (equivalent to years 10, 11 and 12 in high school), getting one of the highest Tertiary Entrance Scores (TES) in the state for my Certificate IV course, for which I won an award.
During this time I considered pursuing many different careers such as engineering or chemistry, but none of these were catering to my creative side. One day, looking through the UAC Guide at home, I finally saw the Bachelor of Games Development (Design) course, and my heart started beating faster – this was it, this was my dream job! I applied and was accepted into SAE QANTM Sydney, and completed my degree in 2017, graduating with three special awards:
Highest GPA (Grade Point Average) for my course
Service to the SAE Community
Student Council (Recognition for Service)
Post-Uni Days
Since then I have completed a Certificate IV in Programming at Petersham TAFE in 2018, and a Certificate II in IT at Liverpool TAFE in 2019.
This year I decided to start working full time on developing my own game "Yokai no Bōken" (Yokai Adventure).
